ARLINGTON: EXCEPTIONAL LIVING
Nestled in between Dallas and Fort Worth, Arlington is home to nearly 400,000 people. It was first settled by the Europeans in the mid-19th century and founded as a city in 1876. By the early 20th century, the city was equipped with telephone service, natural gas, electricity, and a public school system. The population around the time of World War II grew to approximately 4,000.
The construction of a new General Motors plant in the 1950s led to the rapid growth of automotive and aerospace industries and a population boom that lasted throughout the latter half of the 20th century. The city continued to expand with the addition of Six Flags Over Texas in the 1960s and the Texas Rangers baseball team, The AT&T Stadium was constructed in 2009 and became home to the Dallas Cowboys.
Today, the city continues to grow and thrive. There are many retail centers, museums, and other attractions that draw in visitors each year. Through the years, it has grown to become the largest city in Texas that is not a county seat.
